First, add CardShark to your server

CardShark only shows up in a server's Apps list once it has been added there.

🦈 Add to Discord

You need the Manage Server permission. If that's not you, send this page to a server admin.

On your computer

  1. In any text channel, click the Apps button (the grid icon at the right of the message bar).
  2. Click CardShark under "Apps in this Server".
  3. Click Launch.
  4. Pick a game and take a seat.

Tip: the hide-chat button under the table makes the table bigger. The same button brings chat back.

On your phone

Android shown in the video; iPhone may look a little different.

  1. Press and hold the + next to the message bar (a quick tap opens your photos instead).
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap CardShark.
  4. Tap Launch.
  5. Pick a game.

Friends in the channel tap Join on the game invitation to play with you.

"You do not have permission to use activities in this channel"

If Discord says "Failed to launch: you do not have permission to use activities in this channel", the server does not let everyone use Activities there. A server admin fixes it in two places:

  1. Server Settings → Roles → @everyone: turn Use Activities on.
  2. The channel's own settings (Edit Channel → Permissions): look for a red ✗ on Use Activities and clear it.

Not sure which channels? Type /activity_check in the server: CardShark lists every channel where @everyone cannot use Activities, only to you.

How to play Euchre

In the Activity only. Four players in two teams; your partner sits across from you. Bots fill empty seats.

  1. The deal. A 24-card deck: 9, 10, J, Q, K and A of each suit. Everyone gets five cards, and the next card is turned face up.
  2. Making trump. Starting left of the dealer, each player can order it up (the face-up card's suit becomes trump, and the dealer takes that card and puts one face down) or pass. If all four pass, the card is turned down and each player can name a different suit or pass. If it gets back to the dealer, the dealer has to name one.
  3. The bowers. The Jack of trump is the highest card (the right bower). The other Jack of the same colour is next (the left bower), and it counts as trump, not as its own suit. Then A, K, Q, 10, 9 of trump. Your trump cards are sorted first and marked, the left bower included.
  4. Playing. The player left of the dealer leads. Follow the suit led if you can. The highest trump wins the trick; with no trump, the highest card of the suit led. Five tricks a hand.
  5. Going alone. Whoever makes trump can go alone: their partner sits the hand out.
  6. Scoring. The team that made trump scores 1 point for 3 or 4 tricks, and 2 for all five (4 if they went alone). Take fewer than 3 and they are euchred: the other team scores 2.

First team to 10 wins (or 5 for a short game, chosen in the lobby). Euchre plays for points, not chips, and has a rating like Spades and Hearts: see the board.
